Plastic is everywhere—in our packaging, products, and even our clothes. Yet, its low cost hides a huge ecological burden. According to UNEP, over 400 million tons of plastic are produced annually, and nearly half is for single-use purposes.

Most plastic is made from fossil fuels, contributing heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. When burned, it releases toxic pollutants. Even recycling plastic isn’t always effective; only about 9% of plastic ever made has been recycled.

To reduce your plastic footprint, consider the following:

Use reusable shopping bags

Avoid bottled water by switching to stainless steel bottles

Support brands that use biodegradable packaging

Plastic may be convenient, but the planet is paying the price. Learn more in our Why Carbon Matters section.
